Church Covenant

Our church covenant is a simple statement of various commitments that we understand to be the essence of membership in the local church. Though the Bible doesn’t expressly require the use of church covenants, churches throughout history have utilized them as one helpful means of expressing what the Bible teaches about the nature of congregational life in the local church. Church membership, at its heart, involves the mutual commitment among a group Christians to live faithfully as a family of the Lord’s people together in a particular local church body. This is how we view our church covenant at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

We first recited our covenant together at the founding of the church on October 5, 2025. We recite it again every time new members join the church. We recognize we will never live out these covenant commitments perfectly. Nonetheless, they represent the biblical values and ideals that guide us in our life together as a church.

The Church of the Good Shepherd
Church Covenant

Having been won by the love of God,
adopted as His children,
united to His Son,
indwelt by His Spirit,
saved by His free grace,
forgiven all our sins,
and joined together in this church body,
we the members of the Church of the Good Shepherd,
do, with gratitude in our hearts and a wonderful sense of privilege,
solemnly and joyfully covenant with each other:

We will live all our lives to the praise and glory of God.

We will submit ourselves to the Scriptures in all things,
and will endeavor, with God’s help,
to be all that He wants His church to be according to the Bible.

We will walk together in love,
pray for one another,
encourage each other,
bear one another’s burdens,
watch over each other,
and restore one another as occasion requires.

We will devote ourselves to the health and welfare of this church body,
and will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

We will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together,
but will earnestly give ourselves to the public worship of God
and the ordinances of His church.

We will engage in private worship at home,
and will seek to mortify our sin,
pursuing lives of holiness that are well-pleasing to the Lord.

We will joyfully and sacrificially give of our resources
to support the work of this church,
to care for the poor,
and to spread the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Should any of us, in the providence of God, move from this place,
we will seek to unite ourselves with another biblical church,
where we can faithfully serve the Lord and honor His Word.

We give ourselves to these commitments with thankful and willing hearts,
and look to God to supply every grace needed to fulfill our covenant.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all.
Amen.

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” – Ephesians 3:20-21
